STEAM Works runs on a simple idea — kids earn access to tools by demonstrating they can use them safely and well. Here’s how that works.
THE SYSTEM
Not a class catalog. A capability system.
At STEAM Works, what you can do determines what you get to do. Members are organized into cohorts based on readiness — not age, not grade, not how long they’ve been here. Every tool has a certification. Every certification is earned.
Three levels. Real progression.
Explorer
Learn the tools.
Explorers are new to STEAM Works. They learn foundational tools and safety through guided instruction. Every member starts here.
Innovator
Prove you can use them.
Innovators have demonstrated basic competency. They take on more complex projects and begin combining tools and skills.
Vanguard
Combine tools to build and solve.
Vanguards work on real, self-directed challenges. They lead projects, mentor others, and use the full range of tools available.
Progression is earned through demonstrated capability — not time, not attendance, not age.
CERTIFICATIONS
You earn access. You don’t just get it.
Each tool or station at STEAM Works has a certification. A certification means you’ve shown you can use that tool safely and responsibly. It’s not a test — it’s a demonstration. Until you’re certified, an instructor works with you on that tool.
Certifications are specific to tools, not general to a level.
Once earned, a certification means you can use that tool independently — with supervision still in place.
CLASSES & PROJECTS
Instruction is the starting point, not the whole point.
Classes at STEAM Works teach skills and introduce tools. Projects are where those skills get used for real. Members work through both — structured sessions that build capability, and open project time that puts it to use. Sometimes projects are messy. Sometimes they’re unfinished. That’s fine.
FOR PARENTS
Supervised. Structured. Never boring.
Instructors are present in every session. Kids are never unsupervised with tools.
Cohorts group by readiness, not grade. Your kid moves at the pace they earn.
Structure is real — but it doesn’t feel like school. Kids learn by doing.
